A new advertising campaign by HMRC aims to make people who are not paying the right amount of tax through avoidance, evasion or fraud that HMRC are now closing in on them. The campaign is a new targeted scheme to make sure taxpayers are declaring the correct income and paying the correct amount of tax as they should do. A 2 week outdoor advertising plan, starting November 12th, includes billboards boldly stating HMRC are 'closing in on undeclared income' and points to guidance where people can see what income they should be declaring as well as whistle blowing on people they think are not declaring all or some of their income. The guidance can also be found online at http://www.gov.uk/sortmytax. Funded by over £900 million from the Government's spending review the campaign starts from the 2011/12 tax year and should raise an additional £7 billion by 2014/15.
